The standard was created to help organizations that process card payments prevent credit card fraud by implementing increased controls around data and its exposure to compromise. The standard applies to all organizations that hold, process, or pass cardholder information from any card branded with the logo of one of the card brands.

Over the years we’ve heard of many instances of people being charged on their credit cards for services and products they had not ordered.  We advised them to contact their credit card company and in almost every case, the charge was removed because the onus was on the company where the goods where ordered from to prove the validity of the transaction.

In recent year’s Internet scams and fraud has increased, as customers purchase merchandise from websites, which require cash transactions.  There have been instances where money was sent and services were not provided.  The customer had no recourse to recover their funds as the money was usually sent to a third party.
