We all have excuses for not doing something, and we use
tomorrow as the time to start something new. Well there are just as many
diet programs that claim to work as there are tomorrow’s. There are high protein/low
carbohydrate diets, high carbohydrate/low protein diets…high fibre…. How about low calorie
starvation diets? My
favourite
has to be to drink a cup of hot water with a spoonful of
honey every morning to lose weight!
They all claim
to work and all have lists of people they claim to have helped. If someone suggested hopping
on one foot while eating a piece of celery would guarantee weight
loss, there would be people who would try it and others that would
swear that it works. Now,
I’m not here to put down other programs but what I would like to do
is to help you to discover what works for you.
In the battle to
keep your weight under control, fat is viewed as the mortal enemy, and
the main weapon used in the war against fat is a diet. Now most diets will work, in
the sense that a temporary weight loss can be achieved but eventually
most will fail. With this
failure, almost all the weight you lost will be regained and sometimes
you can end up weighing even more than when you started. This can be frustrating if you
are trying to lose weight.
Once you fail on a diet, you begin to think all diets will
fail, if not right away but eventually.
So the best way to avoid failure is never to try. However, if your weight loss
program is done correctly, you can change the failures into a lifetime
of being fit.
The first thing
to realize in the battle against fat is that we are all born with a
certain number of fat cells. Women
naturally have more fat cells then men. The predominance of female hormones like estrogen in their
system causes a greater percentage of food to be stored as fat. Women need more body fat than
men, mainly because of the role they play in childbearing. The second point to realize is
that there are no magic formulas, just facts. If you understand the facts,
the better you can adjust your lifestyle so you can confidently manage
your weight.
